Vintage Brownies

Gramma Mary's chocolate brownies As written n Mom's index card:


Chocolate Brownies               Mom



1c. 2T. Butter or Shortening
6 sqr. Semi-sweet chocolate or 8T. Cocoa
2 ¼ cups sugar
5 eggs beaten
2t. Vanilla
1 ¾ cups sifted cake flour
1t. salt
1 cup nut meats chopped



Melt choc. (if using) over hot water. Add sugar, eggs, vanilla, beat well until blended. Sift flour and salt together; mix nuts and add last. Pour into pan about ½” deep. (if using cocoa sift with flour) bake 350° about 20 to25 min. While still warm cut in to 2” sq. These brownies should have a shiny top and fudge like center.
